Today, our 5th grade class had the incredible opportunity to welcome Janet Davies, a legendary figure in Chicago broadcasting, as she visited and learned about our new RVTV program. Her visit was both inspiring and educational, giving students a glimpse into the world of professional media and storytelling.
Janet Davies is best known as the entertainment reporter for Chicago’s ABC 7, where she worked for over 30 years. She also served as the host and executive producer of 190 North, a Chicago-based entertainment and lifestyle program that earned multiple Emmy Awards. Her career has taken her across the globe, covering stories as diverse as the British Royal Family and endangered species in Kenya. Janet has reported from some of the most prestigious events in entertainment, including the Academy Awards, the Primetime Emmy Awards, and the American Music Awards.
Beyond her professional achievements, Janet has dedicated herself to charitable work. She served on the Children’s Memorial (now Lurie Children’s Hospital) Corporate Board of Directors and partnered with the Leukemia Research Foundation to help create their successful annual 5K race. Her commitment to giving back reflects her passion for making a difference in the community.
Janet’s contributions to journalism and television have earned her numerous accolades, including an impressive 18 Emmy Awards for hosting, producing, writing, and reporting. Born in Richmond, Virginia, and raised in Fairfield, Ohio, she graduated from Miami University in Ohio with a degree in communications and theater.
Mrs. Willsey, the RVTV Director, is working with 5th grade students to create a daily show of announcements and teach them the skills of being TV anchors. Janet’s visit today was a reminder of the power of storytelling and the importance of curiosity and creativity. As our students embark on their own RVTV journey, Janet’s example shows that with dedication and passion, the possibilities are endless.

In Art Class, Mrs. Folk’s students created a beautiful heart chain, drawing pictures and writing ways they can show kindness. These colorful chains are now displayed throughout our building.
Dr. Carlos was thrilled to see these hearts hanging proudly. Kindness is not just for one day. It matters every day. Kindness is one of our core values and part of the River Valley School District Core Values: Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Kindness, Innovation, and Determination.
Let us keep kindness growing in our schools and community.
